Morningside Cape Cod Addition & Remodel

“We’ve been happy in our home” In a neighborhood filled with friends, neighbors and parks, the homeowners were ideally situated. Being community minded their request was for the addition and remodel to be respectful of their neighbors. The lots are dense and pre & post war bungalows and cape cods are close together. An earlier addition left the home with an out of scale, second floor dormer. Up went a new ridge beam to raise the peak and bring the style back to “Americana bungalow”

A modest footprint of 255 square feet was added and unused attic space became dormers to open up the home. With young kids the previous kitchen was isolated and the existing dining room was too small to feed the whole family at once. The front door moved out of the living area and into its own space. A mudroom brought the family entry closer to the garage. Care was taken to spend money only where it would provide the most impact. The island pendants are custom hand screened linen fabric.  “Back of the home” functions were fitted with industrial shelving, the mudroom, laundry room and master bath are modest but care was taken to provide style through paint & finishes.
