Residential architecture for me is creating environments that bring joy to you, their owners. I specialize in thorough design solutions. I’m happiest coordinating the entire project from conceptual design through construction documents, from the exterior shell & structure of the project to the interior finish selections. I collaborate with individual trades-people to insure your interests are met in every decision. I’m also available for master planning, conceptualizing & consulting.
Initial Consultation
We begin with a conversation that is centered on the things that are meaningful to you and what you want to accomplish in your project. This interview establishes the initial scope of your project as well as possible outcomes and preliminary costs. This consultation is free of charge and is used to generate initial estimates for the design process.
Architectural Design Process
I use a 3 step process. In my experience this is the foundation of the creative process. It also provides the planning & detail necessary for the completion of construction documents. This allows you the confidence to know that we have reached our goals before proceeding and that the contractor you may select has the information they need to bid the job accurately and construct it accordingly.
Conceptual Plans
The first step in the process is the schematic design phase. During this phase I take thorough measurements of your home, or site, generate drawings of existing conditions and offer creative solutions to meet your needs. We explore these options and agree on a conceptual plan for the project. I will check our plans and project a construction budget to make sure it aligns with your expectations.
Design Development
The next step is design development, in this phase we select products, and discuss all of the pieces in such detail that we feel comfortable with our decisions. Floor plans, lighting layouts, cabinet layouts, initial paint colors, interior and exterior elevations and trim details are determined here.
Construction documents
The final step is the construction document phase. This important phase results in a cohesive set of working drawings that will allow anyone involved, in the supply of product or construction of the project, to understand what is expected of them for successful completion.
Sustainability
I am happy to help promote responsible stewardship of resources. There are many opportunities for this such as selections to reduce water & energy costs, exploring initial costs vs. maintenance costs, the orientation, configuration & landscaping of projects, construction methods, use of recycling or recycled products. All have an impact on our resources. An opportunity that is often overlooked is finding those gems with which we live that can be brought back for delight and purpose.
